Common Core Kindergarten Standards

What is Common Core?

Since 2010, 47 states have adopted the same standards for English and math. These standards are called the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Having the same standards helps all students get the best education, even if they change schools or move to a different state. Teachers, parents, and education experts designed the CCSS to prepare students for success in college and the workplace.  Standards define the knowledge, concepts, and skills students should acquire at each grade level. The CCSS were developed through a state-led initiative to establish consistent, clear education standards for English-language arts and mathematics across the nation. The standards are research-based and internationally benchmarked—i.e., they are informed by the practices of academically high-achieving nations around the world. The CCSS are designed to prepare students for success in college and careers not only in the nation, but in the competitive global economy. How can I help my child?

Everybody is talking about the implementation of the new Common Core State Standards, but many find it hard to understand just what we will be asking our students to do on a daily basis in the classroom.   Click on each of the links below to view or download the file for each of the content areas below to see parent (and student) friendly versions of the new Kindergarten Common Core State Standards.
