Welcome to Third Grade, Room 14!

August 2024

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Room 14 and the 3rd grade! Let me take this time to introduce myself to you. My name is Mrs. Amy Raichelson and this will be my 34th year teaching and my 20th year here in the wonderful Norris School District! I have a Bachelor’s Degree from California State University, Chico and a Master’s Degree from Grand Canyon University. I grew up and lived in Ventura County prior to my move to Bakersfield 21 years ago. My husband Jon and I have two fantastic children. Eric is 33 and working as a sound designer, engineer and editor for an educational software company in Petaluma, California.  Haley is 27, and works in her field of study (Food Science) at Impossible Foods Co. in Redwood City, California.

Third grade is the bridge between the upper and lower grades. Many new concepts in all academic areas are introduced, making it both exciting and challenging. In a "normal" school year third grade students are bridging the gap from being dependent workers to independent workers. This year will be no different. While the year will "look" different students will still be rocking and rolling and ready for 4th grade come next May!

Each child’s success as a student and an individual is very important to me. My mission is to empower my students emotionally, socially, and academically. They will leave my class knowing that they have control of their choices and actions. I believe in each of my students. This is ever so important this year. It is my hope that this will help them understand how incredibly competent and powerful they are!

I am excited to get to know each of you! I know that you and your child are probably nervous and quite unsure of how this year will go. (I'm not going to lie, so am I!) I promise to give lots of grace, and I hope you will too! Together we will work out kinks, tech issues, time constraints, and anything else that arises. Working together will ensure the success of your child. The key is communication, so please feel free to call or email me with any questions you may have now or at any time throughout the year. Your support and involvement are greatly appreciated!

Fondly,

Mrs. Amy Raichelson
