write this video is for problems that you might be seeing at home with ungrouping if you're feeling frustrated and my kid is doing something wrong I can't figure it out or I seen a class at least. I've been pretty common from year to year that I think is making the same mistake at the first thing that's pretty easy I feel like it's pretty easy but it might not be for everyone is the little rhyme I teach him if there's a cop in the one's place if there's more in top stop just subtract it tell the kids if you don't check that first you're going to make it so hard for yourself because some kids they start doing is they get they get in the groove ungrouping and then I get to a page where there's no problems have to ungroup some you don't have to ungroup just improving all the time and then I get one where they don't need to ungroup and they don't check in they just on group it so what should happen is there's more to talk to stop and subtract so that count from 6 up to the higher number which is what I have my kids to do or if they're going to just attracting they can do that I'm on my kids during the punch count so they started the smaller number 6 and a count of 2878 and the difference is two and then from 2 to 4 so backwards doubles fact to so that should be easy on to the next problem Indian Roofing any work up there and I see the kit to check start loving me problems like you so what do you see happening though is kids doing this they go home can you go next door ungroup one of them at 10 to the 8th at 18 okay 28603 - 2 is 1 queso you see that they didn't need to ungroup they they get the wrong answer because they come up here and they approved it and then they get 16-minute you didn't have to ungroup another one I seen they've done Galaxy 7D coming up with one of the top of my head all right why not I need a bigger number tonight can I make a Jones taking his early okay so another the kids they might know there was a mistake they might not know that they're wrong because it looks like it could be a ready answer I tried to think of one where I've seen are they get really confused you should just stop and subtract with you kids do wrong they come over here the ungroup they add 10 to the 9 so 19 - do you know what steak is a smaller number so you can really see what they do wrong there we go okay with B-17 6 - but there we go that's what I wanted to happen if you end up at the hundreds number and the kids are like 179 I got 300 now will some kids wake up with something bigger and just logic set it up with a smaller number so I seen it happen too and I stopped the kids are going what's going on and what did you ask yourself the question I should have just stopped and subtracted I ungroup when I started racing so if you seen that at home remind them you know it was there more on top or more on the floor please don't just say no you don't let them get there themselves remind them of the steps and say what you need to ask yourself then figure it out what do you think you did wrong go back and check look in the ones place did you start off with enough ones take a look and and have them start really looking and seeing what they did wrong so they can start self-correcting the other one problems with a video about subtracting across one hundreds or we have to go next door again I go back to cookies and I say do you want seven can I give her 7 cuz I don't have enough so the whole reason we have to ungroup it because we don't have enough once so I'm going to have to come next door and a nun grouping one of those 10 just one so I'm taking on the way from the six to be on group so 6 take away one of them would be fine now I'm going at 1:10 to magically disappear and it's gone forever now what am I with it and the kids go drunk Roofing it what am I turning it into now what should happen is I tell the kids it's like that the 10 jumps over here and helped out the four because we have enough but kids start doing this they add 10 what you're really doing is adding 10 to the 4 so this should be 14 but I see this happen and I can't get the wrong answer my check and I look up here and I got and I have to explain to them the 4 was already there so you have 14 now this is where drawing a proof drawing at home to help your kid understand this would really be I'm you draw 1 2 3 4 5 6 and 1/2 3/4 1/3 with I started with 64 so what happened was so easy to take away 7 I can't mom and dad oh okay well how are you going to get more ones I'm going to have to ungroup 1:10 and turn it into Tim ones one two three four five six seven eight nine 10 so then you can please show them do you see how I took one of the 10 to weigh to be in group and now I only have five oh yeah do you see how I don't just have 10 I have 10 plus the four that was already there and that's why I have 14 now I get it light bulb hopefully we can punch count from 7 up to 14th we can punch count to 34525 or if you threw the proof drawing can cross off the seven see how much they have left and then you cross off to and see how much they have left and here's another problem I see I have kids do all this work and they might do 14 - 7 and 7 for them to come over and get this answer this should be a 3 because 5 - 2 is 3 but what they've done is they've looked at this 6 and they've done 6 - 2 is 4 and you got remind them that this is no longer this doesn't exist anymore we don't have 6:10 the new tent that we have is five you're not working with that sticks in that for some kid don't cross them off when they're ungrouping they might just leave it like this and put the five on top of it so when you're working make sure they're actually Crossing off that number so they're really visually thing that is no longer there if they're not doing that Crossing off sometimes I see that in like you know what you're going to you're going to catch yourself making that mistake and they usually do cross off those numbers so that I could do 5 - 2 is 3 other problems I've seen really a lot of them have to do with punch County punch counting up from the small number up to the higher number and just being careful as your plants County 7:14 and then I can't tell you both hands on an iPad I mean to do that drawing I tell the kids all the time on the test if you need to make that fruit drink and cross what you got left and count it up do it do whatever helps you so if your kids will get it right every time during the proof drawing have them do that ideally I'd like for them to learn how to do it without having to do the proof drawing in the end because it would just speak but if they have two right now and do this please have them do that to get used to understanding why their work goes along with the proof drawing and how it's all happening I'm also another problem I'm saying when you come next door to ungroup okay I don't have enough there's more on the floor go next door they do next door they cross off the sticks and I'll make it like a 7 and then make that 14 so they say I did attend and you have to just again that's where proof drawing really comes in handy for parents could pull that out and really show them why you're not adding another 10 that's not going to give you anything cuz then you could show them if that were the case all right okay so I added a 10 how did that help me cuz then you're just magically Addington over here and getting 14 you can't imagine I just had 10 so I had to ungroup one of them that's all I'm getting one the only way you can get ones is by ungrouping attend that is the only way and then just being careful subtracting and they're just doing sticks take away one wrong so if that's the case you would need to practice with your kids just give them a number and have them take away one less well what's 1 less than this number was one less than that number and have them practicing going you're at because that's just being slow down sometimes being careful or percent knowing what number comes before and afters number so 6 take away 1/10 would be five I ungroup it and the tens jumping over here to help out my for becomes 14 anyways I hope some of that was helpful that's a couple of the things I've seen if I think of any more I'll try to make an ooVoo or if you're seeing something at home you can let me know where ask me questions but anyways there's some troubleshooting with ungrouping
